Your guide to the world of Brazilian rhythm
Bohdan Imiela presents the technique of playing, rhythms, and culture.
My name is Bohdan Imiela. I became fascinated by Brazilian rhythms over a quarter of a century ago. From the very beginning, I wanted to share this fascination with others. I have dedicated a large part of my musical career to educational activities, ranging from individual lessons and workshops at various events to regular batucada classes at the Sete Rios Samba School and the International Samba Festival “Raban Festival” in Oborniki Śląskie.
When I was starting out, accessing any knowledge or materials was very difficult – I absorbed every piece of information or recording I could find. Today, there is a wealth of material available on the Internet instantly and for free. However, it remains scattered, fragmented, and of varying quality; finding systematized and curated knowledge is still challenging.
This blog is meant to be the answer to that problem. Here, you will find information that will introduce you to the world of Brazilian rhythms step by step. I will present both the technical nuances of playing individual instruments and the cultural context.
One of my favorite Brazilian instruments is the pandeiro – an instrument so incredible that I am dedicating an entire separate mini-portal to it within our virtual samba school.
On the www.szkolasamby.org website, you will also find useful tools – you can already try out the built-in metronome. Let me know what else would make your learning easier!
I invite you to read the blog, use the other materials on the website, and subscribe to the newsletter to receive blog post summaries, information about new features on the portal, and exciting live events!
